I have done:
Open Gallery and make a new theme.
Drag a custom shape into the window of the new theme.
Right-click the shape in the Gallery. Crash.

I have used Version: 5.3.0.0.alpha0+

Actually I was in Draw rather than Impress

Caolán McNamara committed a patch related to this issue.
It has been pushed to "master":

Resolves: tdf#101253 crash in gallery popup menu

It will be available in 5.3.0.

The patch should be included in the daily builds available at
http://dev-builds.libreoffice.org/daily/ in the next 24-48 hours. More

Affected users are encouraged to test the fix and report feedback.
