In MS Excel one can simply type the current date by using the shortcut "ctr+.". That's very handy for me, so I would love to have this in calc too.

Hi Stefan,

Actually, "Ctrl+;" do that.
Isn't it easy?
"Ctrl+." is available however.
You can find it by selecting
Tools > Custumize... > Keyboard.
