Description haydntrowell 2017-04-02 02:49:27 UTC
The word count dialog box is missing some statistics that users may find useful.

For example, the word count dialog box in Microsoft Word contains additional entries for "Pages", "Paragraphs", "Lines", and "Non-Asian words". The last of these items, "Non-Asian words", is particularly useful when composing documents in an East Asian script with glosses/parentheses/footnotes in a language written in a Roman script, and when composing bilingual documents in a language written in Roman script and one written in an East Asian script.

As such, it would be very beneficial to users of East Asian languages if the word count dialog would display this statistic, while statistics such as "Pages", "Paragraphs", and "Lines" would be useful to users no matter their linguistic background.

Hello,

If I'm not mistaken, such statistics as "Pages", "Paragraphs", "Lines", are available by using:
File > Properties... > Statistics.
Asian Characters and Korean syllables are available in the Words count dialog box (click in Word count in Status Bar) when:
Tools > Options > Language Settings > Languages
Default Languages for Documents > Asian was ticked

Cordially,

Jacques

Yes, statistics for "Pages", "Paragraphs", and "Lines" are available from File > Properties... > Statistics. I believe that it would be useful to also have these in the word count dialog box as in other word processing software.

However, LibreOffice does not seem to have any equivalent to the "Non-Asian words" field. This is not the same as the "Asian Characters and Korean syllables" field. One would assume that it could be calculated as an equation via "Words" minus "Asian characters and Korean syllables". It would be very useful to have access to the statistic without having to manually equate it each time it is desired, as is available in other word processing software.

OK.

Lets limit this ticket to this addition:

Add "Non-Asian words" to Word count dialog. This is "Words" minus "Asian characters and Korean syllables" (as stated in comment 2)

For the other topic (integrating stuff from File->Properties, please open a new ticket for discussion (you can link it here)).
