I filed the crash report with Libre Office. This was the first run after installation of the latest build.  The program opened a blank document and then crashed : I had thought that the report would have been attached to the Bugzilla case as that is implied in the process. FYI

I seem to have fixed this by the following steps.

1. removed the old help files from version 6.4
2. ran the Installation Wizard and repaired the installation

Libre Office 7 now opens as I would expect it to.
