Bug 137888

Summary: Cannot save Writer documents
Product: LibreOffice Reporter: Albrecht Dreß <albrecht.dress>
Component: WriterAssignee: Not Assigned <libreoffice-bugs>
Status: RESOLVED WORKSFORME
Severity: normal CC: xiscofauli
Priority: medium

Description Albrecht Dreß 2020-10-30 20:33:04 UTC
Description:
It is impossible to save any Writer document using the 32-bit build coming with Debian Buster Backports:

Version: 7.0.2.2
Build ID: 00(Build:2)
CPU threads: 2; OS: Linux 4.19; UI render: default; VCL: gtk3
Locale: en-US (C); UI: en-US
Debian package version: 1:7.0.2-2_bpo10+1
Calc: threaded

uname -a: Linux debian32 4.19.0-12-686 #1 SMP Debian 4.19.152-1 (2020-10-18) i686 GNU/Linux

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install LibreOffice 7 on a Debian Buster/32 bit box from backports
2. Launch Writer
3. Try to save document

Actual Results:
A dialogue reading

Error saving the document Untitled 1:
  General Error.
  General Input/Output error

pops up. In the destination folder, a file named “lu[some chars].tmp” with 0 bytes is created. It is completely impossible to save any document - iow, Writer is unusable.

Erasing the user profile or running LibreOffice in safe mode doesn't help., i.e. it is still impossible to save.

Expected Results:
Just save the document…

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: Yes

Additional Info:
Note 1: it is possible to save Calc, Impress or Draw documents on the 32 bit machine

Note 2: saving from Writer works as expected on 64-bit machines using the same packages from Debian backports.
Comment 1 Albrecht Dreß 2020-11-08 13:38:58 UTC
It appears that the bug has been fixed in Version

| Version: 7.0.3.1
| Build ID: 00(Build:1)
| CPU threads: 2; OS: Linux 4.19; UI render: default; VCL: gtk3
| Locale: de-DE (de_DE.UTF-8); UI: de-DE
| Debian package version: 1:7.0.3-3_bpo10+1
| Calc: threaded

available from Debian Buster backports – at least it is now possible to save files from Writer on a i386 (32 bit) system.

I switch to bug to “fixed” for the time being, although I cannot find any note about the reason in the changelogs.

Setting to RESOLVED WORKSFORME since the commit fixing this issue hasn't been
