The eyedropper tool has a preview field for the color that is picked up under the mouse cursor. After one first successful use of the tool, the field keeps showing a color from elsewhere on the screen. Offset could not be determined any better because eyedropper palette disappeared (will file another bug in a minute). 

Behaviour may be related to using retina display.

in LibreOffice > Draw > Menubar > Tools I cannot find an "eyedropper" tool. Can you share the exact steps to open the tool?

It's Tools -> Color Replacer (Eyedropper was its name in 3.3, but that changed shortly after), then choose the button with icon and Pipette tooltip near the top left corner.

It's fine for me in Windows, if there's a bug on Mac, it's possibly Mac or HiDPI/Retina-specific.

The tool isn't very intuitive. Here are the steps I tried:

1. open LO Draw
2. drag colorful image into document
3. open Tools > Color Replacer
4. selected first source field and then the pipette, clicked on color in image and it was never picked up, the color in the field just stayed white

It appears the image is not recognized at all when using pipette tool. But I might as well be using that dialog wrong, the steps are not clear.

Also I can confirm the color replacer dialog then disappears and does not come back after restarting LO. So I cannot do any additional testing.

Steve,

the palette does not disappear completely, it is just minimized. You can tell where it is if you watch your window closely while enabling/disabling the palette. You may also want to try opening/closing the peroperties palette. 

I eventually found the color replacement palette was reduced to a very slim vertical line to the left or right edge of the drawing area and could drag it out from there.

I can confirm the problem on a MacBook Air M2 running OS 13.3.1(a)

The preview appears to show some color related to the mouse position but no matter how my screen looks like and where I move the mouse, the preview is either white or gray.
