Selecting a whole table is difficult.

I propose, that a five-fold click somewhere in a cell selects the whole table. One might then manipulate its properties.

Presently a four-fold click selects everything in the cell.

If a five-fold click is judged impractical, alternatively, one could provide a click together with one of the "modifier keys" (Shift, Ctl, Alt) or a combination of them or a new function "select whole table" in the context menu.

Which one takes, is ultimately a matter of taste.  But we need a function, with which one can select quickly and reliably the whole table, which is prticularly difficult if it extends over many pages. Selecting its content from the beginning to the end is sometimes terribly time-consuming.

So far I know only one way via the navigator: Select the table under "Tables", then context menu>Select.

1. Place cursor in any cell of table to be selected.
2. Table ▸ Select ▸ Table

1) Menu > Tools > Customize
Customize dialog opens
2) Click the 'Context Menus' tab.
3) Select 'Table' in the 'Target' drop down.
4) Type 'select table' in the 'Search' edit box.
5) Select 'Select Table' from the 'Available Commands' list box.
6) Click the 'Add item' arrow to add the 'Select Table' command to the 'Assigned Commands' list box. 

It does seem odd there is not already a 'Select' sub menu having 'Cell', 'Row', 'Column', and 'Table' like there is for Menu > Table > Select.

We have the Table toolbar where you can select all table using only one click by the icon

My POV => wontfix

Thank you for your help. I did not know about those ways to select the whole table.

I have followed the advice of comment 2 and that's perfect. Still I would recommend to have this one activated from the onset because that's a natural way to search for such an option!

Heiko, you are right: The other suggestion is much more general than mine, and it covers other things that I've often been annoyed with as well. Most importantly, it would create a more consistent operation between LO Writer and LO Calc. Too bad that nothing has happened after a productive discussion on this proposal since 2019!
