I changed the bug Component from Base to LibreOffice, because it affect more than one module. Writer, Impress, Draw: menu Format - Character - Font tab, Language field. Calc: menu Format - Cells - Numbers tab, Language field. Also you can choose menu Tool - Options - Language Settings - Languages (or secondary click the status bar on the language field and choose More), and search in the Western languages for documents. English UI says Catalan (Valencian). I can not discuss what the correct language name is. Eike: any thoughts here? The IETF language tag is ca-valencia (or ca-ES-valencia for the locale) so "Catalan (Valencian)" is a technically correct name, there is no discrete ISO 639-3 code for Valencian. If the Valencian localization team wants the UI name translated to "Valencià" or "Valenciano" it is free to do so. Note that "There is a political controversy within the Valencian Community regarding its status as a glottonym or as a language on its own, since official reports show that slightly more than half of the people in the Valencian Community consider it as a separate language, different from Catalan, although the same studies show that this percentage decreases dramatically among younger generations and people with higher studies." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Valencian_language And "Valencian is considered a separate language by about half the people in Valencia, while others consider it to be a variety of Catalan. It is classified by linguists as a Western dialect of Catalan, and the Valencian Language Academy (Acadèmia Valenciana de la Llengua, AVL) considers Valencian and Catalan to be two names for the same language." https://www.omniglot.com/writing/valencian.htm This was already discussed in bug 114928, so marking as a duplicate although I appreciated the references provided by Eike. Please discuss there if there is more to add. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 114928 *** |
