Actual document VS Style preview

I've pasted my text from a website, clicked on a style I want, and absolutely nothing changed. I've tried both Default Paragraph and Text Body; both are useless. Heading 1 does at least do something though.

Attached is a screenshot of the text body example looking different (unchanged) to the actual document.

Thank you.

Maybe because at paste you ends with direct format on the text, and even the text has the style that you have applied it to show the direct format.
Text if Menu/Edit/Select All and Menu/Format/Clear Direct Formatting.

Thanks for replying.

If I click on a style then I expect the style to be applied. While I understand what you're saying and why that could explain what happens, can you see how to my retired parents it just sounds like excuses? The button for applying a style simply didn't.

The parents have already gone back to Office after this bad impression so feel free to close this if you prefer.
