When you say "tabulator", do you mean an ASCII TAB character in a text file, the Tab key on your keyboard, or what? If you mean a TAB character in a text file, I doubt Writer is supposed to be especially suited as a plain text file editor.Note that there is no universal standard for the tab width. 8 columns used to be the traditional standard, but then in the "PC" world, for some reason 4 columns bevame much more used. Just don't use TABs in text files if you want to be able to edit them with random software. Please give more information what you are doing, exactly, and attach sample files. I mean writing a document like a CV with an indention where you use the Tab key on your keyboard. On the left side you write "Jan/2000 to Mar/2006" then you use the Tab key and add what you have done in the time period. I will prepare some screenshots later. No need for screenshots, just attach a minimal sample document. Created attachment 44303 [details]

Is not so easy to let you know what I mean when the error occurs after saving and opening the file again. So please have a look to the JPG you see the formatting which will be gone when you open the ODT. Have you edited the style used by the paragraphs in question so that the first (only?) tab stop is at a suitable position? If all the paragraphs in question use the same style, use right-click and Edit Paragraph Style, then in the Tabs tab, set the position for the (only) tab stop to (for instance) 10cm. At least, that's what I came up when quickly experimenting. I.e., I guess your problem is that you expect Writer to have some "sane" default tab settings, and apparently the default style doesn't have that. Or perhaps you expect the first use of a tab in a paragraph with no tab settings in its style to automatically set a tab position at the column where that tab is, and then automatically make the same tab position be effective in other paragraphs that use the same style? And really, I guess you shouldn't be using tabulators at all, but a proper table... If you use tabs, and the paragraph is longer than one line, the next lines won't be indented to the tab stop. So yeah, the right thing to do here is to use a table, I think. (Back when I used to teach people how to properly create documents in LaTeX, one simple rule I used was "if it has columns and rows, it is a table". Any attempt at "manual" table-like formatting, aligning columns etc with (horror) multiple spaces or tabs, is bound to fail.) Cédric, what do you think? I would tend to resolve this as NOTABUG, the user just needs to learn how to use the software and not expect it to work like a "normal" plain text editor... Sorry, you didn't understand. It is a bug! The error is not setting the paragraphs but Writer is not able to show the paragraphs AFTER reopening the file. I will try to explain once again. 1. You start Writer on a new empty document. 2. You set the margin within the ruler like you can see in the attachment "Example Writer Document as it is before saving and reopen" 3. You write some text like you can see in the same attachment 4. You save the file and close the application 5. You start the application again and open the document file 6. You will get the result like you can see on the attachment "Example Writer Document after reopen" If you follow these steps, you will admit that the user expects from Writer not more then the same formatting before and after closing and opening a simple document. Note: I don't know why there are links in comment 9. I did only write plain text. Do not follow these links. Nothing to do with my explanation. Formatting a text with feeder and tabulator like this: Word [tab] Text text text text ......... ........ text Then save file and reopen - result: Word[tab]Text text text text ......... ........ text Means the formatting between the word and the text is gone.
