Description Mark Gajdosik 2011-05-11 03:17:41 UTC
I've seen the report from November 2010 (http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/libreoffice-bugs/2010-November/000840.html) regarding the Clear Formatting - the problem has been marked as resolved since then.

However, I am still having problems clearing some character formatting in some of my documents. This is causing me minor difficulties with document editing as I have to apply Default character formatting directly from the list to clear it.

I have uploaded a section of my document, where I cannot clear the formatting of the green boxes.

Many thanks!

Mark

Effect is reproducible with reporter's sample document and "LibreOffice 3.4Beta4 – WIN7 Home Premium (64bit) German UI [DEV300m103 (Build:4)]"

Steps to reproduce:
1. Open document with double click from WIN explorer
2. select all contents with <ctrl+a>
3. Menu 'Format > Clear direct Formatting'
   expected: All characters with default formatting
   actual: green background an white characters remain.

OOo 3.1.1 seems to work as expected.

But may be expection is wrong?

Help text from
<http://help.libreoffice.org/Writer/Format>
is Wrong / obsolete, there does not exist an item "Default Formatting". That's obsolete, the current name is "Clear Direct formatting"

Help says "Removes direct formatting and formatting by character styles from the selection."
That works with OOo 3.1.1 also for the green background characters (character Style "!FRA Fire Exit ID"), but not with LibO.

But can we trust a help text with obsolete heading?

Hints in Help concerning deletion hyperlinks also does not match with real behavior, during my tests hyperlinks remain, what might be related, "Internet Hyperlink" also is a character style.

I have much trouble with "Clear Direct formatting", but until now i have not found the time for systematic research.

@Noel:
Will you proceed or is this one for Cédric?

@Kendy
Will you please check Help?

currently I really don't have a clue what clear formatting even is ( so thanks for checking ) I wonder though why we differ from Oracle office here, is this intentional, maybe Cedric has some idea

Also, Clear formatting does not clear the list styles.

I have no idea if this was supposed to be this way. I can't try this on OOo since I replaced it with LibreOffice - but I sort of remember it worked in OOo.

Sorry for a useless comment if the function wasn't supposed to clear list styles.

Related or not?
In DRAW / Presentation the Format menu item is named "Default Formatting". Is that intended because it behaves different from here discussed "Clear direct Formatting", or wrong? Help uses the samd "Common" text for "Clear direct Formatting".

According to comment https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=31394#c3, this is intended behaviour, changed on purpose.
