Bug 40974

Summary: Reordering slides by dragging is not straightforward

Description -- removed -- 2011-09-17 11:37:26 UTC
When I try to drag a slide (in the left pane in normal mode) to a different position, I get a stop sign (which obviously indicates the slide can't be dropped) and no animation indicating the new slide position is shown.

However, when I continue dragging the slide outside of the left pane and then back into the pane, the slide can be inserted, i.e. the dragging cursor changes when the slide can be inserted and the "insert-here-animation" is shown.

I was using the 3.4.3 x86_64 rpm release as downloaded from libreoffice.org (on openSUSE 11.4 with java-sun jre1.6.0)
I was told that this behaviour doesn't occur with a .deb x86 release.

This bug was filed before the changes to Bugzilla on 2011-10-16. Thus it
started right out as NEW without ever being explicitly confirmed. The bug is
changed to state NEEDINFO for this reason. To move this bug from NEEDINFO back
to NEW please check if the bug still persists with the 3.5.0 beta1 or beta2 prereleases.
Details on how to test the 3.5.0 beta1 can be found at:

With 3.5.0beta2, build ID c3bcb31-760cc4d-f39cf3d-1b2857e-60db978,
the issue is similar.
When the cursor has been moved outside of the overview pane, the insert animation is shown, and the slide can be reordered. The current build, however, does not seem to crash occasionally on this operation, like 3.4.3 did.

When trying to drag a slide and the cursor has left the overview pane:

a) When the slide overview in the left pane is scrolled all the way up and a slide is being tried to drag, the stop sign cursor is shown; none of the slides cannot be relocated.

b) When the overview pane is _not_ scrolled to the top and a slide is dragged, a drag cursor is shown, but still no insert animation. When the slide is dropped somewhere, the slide is not inserted at that position, but it changes its position, nevertheless.
E.g. when I have 10 slides (#1-#10) and the overview scrolled all the way down and I drag #10 and drop it somewhere, it is inserted between #3 and #4, or between #4 and #5 (I could not find out where it is dropped under which conditions). When #9 is dragged and dropped, it is inserted between #2 & #3 or #3 & #4. Likewise, #8 between #1 & #2 or #2 & #3; #7 before #1 or between #1 & #2.

I cannot reproduce the problem on Windows. So it might be a problem with a build for Linux.
