situation: Windows network, with data files on network share.

I encounter copies of spreadsheet files (ODF) on the network. Given the original filename of name.ods, the copies are called name0.ods, name1.ods, etc. (depending on th enumber of copies already present).
I do not know how they come to exist, I do know that they are produced by LibO and not removed.
Once, when the original file was in use, I saw a copy being created when I tried to open the file in use by someone else. I could not reproduce this behaviour.
Often, the copy is identical to (with? English not native language)the original, but I have seen occasions when the copy is not (the copy is much smaller, once even 0 bytes, and does not contain compressed xml, but gibberish).

The user have not set 'always save a backup copy' in the options.

I am sorry not being able to provide a reproducible way, but the behaviour is annoying, with a growing number of copies giving confusion.

Problem seems to be related to a mixed Windows environment, i.e. some machens have Win7 and some have WinXP.

It looks as if a calc document, last saved on a WinXP machine, changed/saved by a Win7 machine, has its temporary filename0.ods not removed after the save.
A second change/save on the Win7 machine creates the filename0.ods (the previous was removed manually) adn erases it again afer the save.

Note: with 'seems' and 'looks as if'I mean that I have not yet been able to reproduce it with 100% certainty that the above is the sole and only cause.

Since this is a very old bug, can anybody please confirm this is still valid with the latest LO 4.x?

I daily check (read run a cronjob) for these files. They occur much less now than the did 2 years ago. The reason for this could be improvements of LibreOffice or the fact that the mixed environment of Windos XP and Windows 7 machines on the network is getting less mixed (i.e. Windows XP machine are becoming scarse).

To keep the list of open bugs as short as possible, I close the bug as WFM.

Thanks for the reminder :)
