Description eseesehache 2011-12-11 17:36:22 UTC
Problem description:

When I go to full-screen (Ctrl + Shift + j) and try to write some accented character like 'á' or 'í' i only get its un-accented version, as 'a' or 'i'.

If i exit full screen mode, this behavior still persists, and I must restart writer to make it work again.

I can write accented characters if I don't go to full screen.

This is *alaways* reproducible in my netbook, and not having full screen posibbility is very annoying since i have a tiny screen.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Open Writer, it shows a blank document
2. Switch to full screen
3. Try to write an accented character (eg. 'á').

Current behavior:

It doesn't write an accented character ('a' is shown instead of 'á')

Expected behavior:

It should write the accented version.

Platform:

- LibreOffice from upstream Debs
- Spanish keyboard
- Debian Squeeze, GNOME Desktop, Two monitors (internal LVDS 1024*600, external 1024*768)
- System and keyboard both configured as spanish from Spain

Thank you.

Works with LibO 3,5rc1
Win7 x64
Comment 2 eseesehache 2012-01-21 07:24:56 UTC
Still not fixed in 3.4.5, downloaded today from libreoffice webpage.

The host is the same, the operating system is the same.

Anyway, Windows 7 != Linux. Both operating systems have different behavior.
It may work in windows, but it does not work in my Debian setup.

LibreOffice Version:

LibreOffice 3.4.5
OOO340m1 (Build:502)

And if copy-paste á and í in fullscreen mode? This problem appears? (this important for reproduce this problem because not all testers know how type these letters)
Comment 4 eseesehache 2012-02-14 11:25:07 UTC
The problem only appears when I type the character using the keyboard.

If i copy 'á' and paste it, it goes fine, but if i try to write it using the keyboard, i get the unaccented version.

Thanks for your attention.

I will try add Spanish keyboard to my keyboards and type. Please, explain how type accented characters. Which English letters are on those buttons, which key bindings I should press.

PS: Please, try detach external monitor, reboot and see if this problem present.

I don't have an US keyboard so I can't guarantee, but I tried the following tutorial and it seemed to work:

http://spanish.about.com/od/writtenspanish/a/dia_ubuntu.htm

And yes, it seems that it *works* if I detach the second display and reboot with only internal display.

But when I enable again the second display, the bug re-appears.

Thanks.

More details:

If I had two monitors enabled (and the bug was triggered as expected) but I

  - Close writer
  - Disable the 2nd display *without rebooting nor restarting X11*
  - Open writer and go full-screen again

The bug does not appear. It only has one monitor enabled, as I told previously.

More:

Based on the last point (LO is operating with only one display):

  - Go to full screen
  - Type my accented characters, all goes fine
  - Return to window mode
  - WITHOUT closing writer, I enable the second display
  - Go to full screen again, the bug re-appears.

More:

Based on the last point (LO is operating with two displays, bug triggered):

  - Go to window mode
  - WITHOUT closing writer, I disable the second display
  - The bug is still here, although I am only using one display.

I expect that information helps.

This is a very old bug. eseesehache, is this still happening with the latest LO 4.1.x releases?
Comment 10 eseesehache 2013-09-22 12:42:25 UTC
I upgraded that computer from Debian Squeeze + GNOME 2 to Ubuntu 12.04 + MATE and cannot reproduce the bug. After testing multiple configurations, I can write accented characters in full screen and window mode.

Versions of LibreOffice tested:

- 3.5.7.2 (From Ubuntu repos)
- 4.1.1.2 (Downloaded today from LibreOffice's webpage)

Thank you anyways, it's great that the bug does not appear anymore.
