Description Leo Wallentin 2012-01-16 00:39:25 UTC
Problem description:
When copy-pasting url:s from any browsers url bar, international domain names such as http://例え.テスト will be shown in punycode as http://xn--r8jz45g.xn--zckzah/%E3%83%A1%E3%82%A4%E3%83%B3%E3%83%9A%E3%83%BC%E3%82%B8. This is probably techically correct (I guess the punycode is what actually gets copied), it's not what I believe most users would expect. As the string is converted to a hyper link, it could as well be displayed in it's native format.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Make sure your browser has a language with non ascii characters in it among the preferred languages (required in Chrome, but not in Firefox or Opera). Most languages except English would do.
2. Go to any IDN domain in that language (such as http://例え.テスト, if you have Japanese among your preferred languages).
3. Copy the url from the url bar
4. Paste the url in Libre Office Writer

Current behavior:
URL gets converted to a hyperlink, but with the punycode as text: http://xn--r8jz45g.xn--zckzah/%E3%83%A1%E3%82%A4%E3%83%B3%E3%83%9A%E3%83%BC%E3%82%B8

Expected behavior:
URL gets convertet to a hyperlink, but the text will be displayed just as it would in a browser: http://例え.テスト/メインページ

Browser: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64) AppleWebKit/535.7 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/16.0.912.75 Safari/535.7

Thanks for bugreport
Please, verify if in last version of LibreOffice still reproducible
Comment 2 Leo Wallentin 2012-03-16 01:28:29 UTC
As of version 3.4.4 OOO340m1 (Build:402) the behaviour is still the same, yes.
Comment 3 sasha.libreoffice 2012-03-16 02:48:27 UTC
Thanks for additional testing
Problem not reproducible in 3.5.1 version on Windows and Linux when copy-paste from Firefox to Writer. Pasted as: http://例え.テスト.
Interned Explorer and Konqueror unable to display this correctly

Aha, then I guess this is more an issue with how the clip board works in Gnome 2/3 and Ubuntu Unity ...

I'm marking this as WORKSFORME as it works fine for me and Sasha said it was working for him. Might be a bug but it's not our bug :) Thanks for reporting, good luck tracking it down (maybe report at launchpad and see what they say). Also, if you have another operating system maybe try to test it out, if you can confirm on another operating system please open this one back up as UNCONFIRMED and provide additional information (whatever you think it useful).
