Hi Matt,
I have the same behaviour (Ubuntu 11.04) but when running the presentation, the movies show fine. Of course, if supported by my local media players.

Doesn't the move show when you run the presentation ?
Are you able to play the movie in your local media players?

No it did not run in the presentation, or while editing. Yes I could play the movie in the movie player.

I did get the movie to be playable in the presentation by installing the java media framework. Then the movies would play, but I could not change settings on them as far as repeat / start when click. So it would not work sufficiently.

So it does play now, though you have some wishes?

then we can close this issue and you may want to look to existing issues for your other wishes and add info there, or creat new ones.

Thanks - Cor

Yes it plays after installing Java Media Framework. It took me awhile to find this out, sorry I did not post the resolution.

OK Matt, no problem. Good that you found it!
(To be honest, I do not remember that I installed Java Media Framework on my Ubuntu ... so maybe a different player solution in this version ? - good discussion for another location ;-) )
