Description Matthias Basler 2012-02-14 14:24:25 UTC
On WinXP SP3, 3GB RAM, Core2Duo

LibO 3.5.0 Released crashes repeatedly trying to do larger edits on a 70+ page document with half of the pages being full of photos.
Example tasks are: Converting a chapter from one column to two column text, deleting one or several chapters and so on.
This is 100% reproducable for me. To reproduce, download attached sample document and try one of the following:
- Either mark all the text of chapter 2 (until heading of chapter 3) and try to format it with two text columns instead of one.
- Or try to delete the whole text content of chapter 1 or 2.

Result: Crash and LibO will save document for recovery.

Note 1: This is basically the same document that LibO 3.4.4 wasn't even able to open without crashing.

Note 2: After shrinking this document to the first ~20 pages, no more crashes occur.

Note 3: OpenOffice 3.3.0 does NOT show similar crashes, it has been able to cope with this document without problems during the last two days. (Needless to say that I will continue my work with OOo 3.3 for now...)

The sample file is 33MB.
I see I cannot attach a file >3MB. In this case I ask that you recommend me a file upload service because I don't have any web space to host that file myself.
Sorry.

The test file mentioned in the bug report can now download from my MediaCenter:
https://mc.gmx.net/guest?path=Meine%20Dokumente%20von%20matthiasbasler%40earthflight.org&token=425CD698469014B4

The file is named "test4.odt" and is ~33MB large.

(Please let me know if you have problems accessing this file. I can send it per email as well if needed.)

Not reproducible on LO 4.0.4.2 (Win7 32bit), though my h/w spec below yours. Indeed I experienced lag a few seconds while marking whole chapter 1 after reformatting chapter 2.

Please REOPENED this bug if that still persists on latest stable release & after you try adjusting LO memory settings.
