Description daniel.schaaaf 2012-03-20 04:09:49 UTC
Different applications of LibreOffice show different behavior and each application has restrictions that make working with one single application impossible! The situation is worst in Writer.

Some examples:
- Rotation of images not possible in Writer (but works in Draw)
- Editing grouped objects is clumsy and annoying (e.g. clicking anywhere outside group will exit group => double clicking like in Draw is the better solution)
- Impress only works with text boxes and shapes but it does not allow different styles in one single text box or shape and outline numbering is not accessible
- Some objects can only be grouped in Draw but not in Writer
- Tables in Writer are clumsy and should be replaced with embedded Calc tables (can be done manually but then Writer changes size of embedded table every now and then and thereby renders them ugly)
...

Functionality of one application (like Writer) should behave the same as in all the other applications (like Draw) and all applications should have all functions available.
Users should be able to customize behavior per application if they want to.

I know that this "bug report" is somewhat vague and implies huge changes to LibreOffice, but it would also be a huge improvement and eliminate similar bugs that have been filed.
Seeing how the different applications in LibreOffice are diverting from each other is scary.

@daniel.mania@umb.no
We can't handle such "make a better office suite" reports here.

Some of your requests are already known (Rotation of images not possible in Writer ...), others need more discussions concerning details how to realize.

I recommend to join <libreoffice-ux-advise@lists.freedesktop.org> and to discuss your ideas with the User Experience team.

Best regards

Rainer

I thought this one would be too big, sorry for submitting it as a bug. I'm new to mailing lists but I'll give it a try.

Unfortunately I am not a programmer and I have no idea how LibreOffice is organized. But I thought the things I mentioned (and similar bugs) are packages that could be exchanged between those applications. And yes, I sound like a very naive person now ;)

Thank you for being so active here!
