Screenshot illustrating the issue

I came across an error reported in another bug, about Lightproof incorrectly reporting a missing space before an end quotation mark https://www.libreoffice.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=48112

(This bug report will make more sense if the other one is read first).

I then made the correction in the dialog box, and LO changed the quotation mark from a "smart" quotation mark to a "plain" quotation mark.

Specifically, I deleted the quotation mark in question, and entered a new one, at the same time removing the space before the first word.

Here is the sentence:

Harry stared at Draco with tears rolling down his face, still not
understanding. ” Why?” he asked.

LO set the first quotation mark to a plain one (ie not smart), but the second (closing) quotation mark was untouched.

The screenshot illustrates the (incorrect)result.

LO should have inserted smart punctuation which is used when editing normally in the document.

Please do not use https://www.libreoffice.org/bugzilla/*, use https://bugs.freedesktop.org/* URLs instead..
Thanks

@Wyndham: Could you please give more information to reproduce this issue, because for me it was not reproducible with LO 4.0.2.2 (Win7 Home, 64bit). Does this issue still persist for you with the latest release of LO?
