Bug 49496

Summary: FORMATTING: outlining instability
Product: LibreOffice Reporter: Patrick <patrickreaster>
Component: WriterAssignee: Not Assigned <libreoffice-bugs>
Status: RESOLVED INVALID
Severity: normal CC: bfo.bugmail, jmadero.dev
Priority: medium
Version: 3.5.4 release
Hardware: x86-64 (AMD64)
OS: Linux (All)
Whiteboard: BSA
Crash report or crash signature: Regression By:

Description Patrick 2012-05-04 07:53:13 UTC
Problem description:

Steps to reproduce:
1. begin using outline format
2. change outline formats, or not
3. continue building outline

Current behavior: Outlining changes without warning and without option to fix. The first character of a new line may suddenly indent several tab stops in from the letter, number, or bullet. This is usually peculiar to that level in the outline. Which level is effected varies with the outline style selected. Also, a new line may set its number/letter/bullet at a set indent for so long, and then afterward set it at the zero point. Again, independent of user control.

Expected behavior:

Platform (if different from the browser):

Browser: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64) AppleWebKit/535.19 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/18.0.1025.168 Safari/535.19

Marking as NEEDINFO. The steps aren't very clear, like step #2 "change outline formats, or not", not sure what that is saying. Please clarify also provide a document displaying problem. Once you clarify steps and provide documentation, move back to UNCONFIRMED and we'll try to triage the bug.
Comment 2 Patrick 2012-09-17 03:33:11 UTC
1. The Outline feature arbitrarily changes spacing, so that the first level will begin spacing the text several tab stops in from the numeral. Also the numeral itself is apt to be indented without being set to do so. The spacing after the numeral cannot be fixed in the document. The indented numeral may be by moving the guidelines or by using the shift buttons on the toolbar, but neither is a guarantee.

2. Hitting Return at the end of a paragraph is apt to remove all formatting (font, line spacing etc.) from that paragraph.

3. Text pasted-in is apt to override the guidelines, losing text off the left side of the page.

I'll look into this. Please don't prioritize bugs as QA tries to keep this consistent. Critical bug implies that it crashes the program or something similar. Changing priority back to default until this is confirmed.

Do you have problems with specific document or in general? This bug cannot be fixed without reproducible testcase, so please attach a sample document along with step by step instructions how to reproduce your issues.
