Description Márcio Faustino 2012-08-19 17:55:50 UTC
Problem description:

Steps to reproduce:
1. Begin installation.
2. Enable association of Microsoft Word documents

Current behavior:
Wordpad documents (RTF) get associated with Writer.

Expected behavior:
Either don't associate Wordpad documents with Writer by default, or give a separate option. Especially because starting up Wordpad is considerably faster than Writer.

Platform (if different from the browser): Windows 7 64-bit

Browser: Opera/9.80 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; U; en) Presto/2.10.289 Version/12.01

(Definitely a Windows issue.)
Comment 2 Florian Reisinger 2013-04-21 07:16:53 UTC
RTF is not wordpad's only format so NOTABUG (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rich_Text_Format)
[You could argue, that .docx should not be associated with LibO, because it can be opened with Wordpad -> NOTABUG]

Please consider to associate .txt with Wordpad, assuch an option is only confusing.

The fact that a format can be opened by several different programs is not the point.

The point is that the definition of "Microsoft Word documents" (seen in the installer) doesn't include RTF documents, it's just too broad. Going down this path, why not associate TXT files even? It does, however, include DOCX, so I don't think anyone could ever argue against it.

The default installation behavior doesn't need to change, if that's the issue here. A check box for excluding RTF files can sit behind an "Advanced" or "Customize" installation button.

Okay, another argument: Compatibility with Linux. Feel free to reset it to Wordpad again. Because this not MS only (regarding to .txt)

Word documents --> MS Document format for text: .doc .docx .dot ............. .rtf

So please leave the bug AS IS

Thanks for your understanding
