Severity: normal CC: LibreOffice, stfhell

Description bugquestcontri 2012-10-28 03:20:18 UTC
Problem description:
when I select a text in outlook notes and paste it into writer using ctrl+c and ctrl+p, the text does NOT paste to the cursor position but pastes at the end of the writer document.

Using text from notepad or thunderbird email pastes into the right position (=cursor position)

However, I remember I observed the wrong paste position also before in LibO 3.5.6.2 when using a text definitely not from outlook notes, but I don't remember the application I copied from. Should I observe the bug again with a different application I will make a commment to this bug report.

Steps to reproduce:
1. select a text in outlook notes (with or without the first line)and copy the selected text to the clipboard
2. paste into writer when the cursor position is not at the end of a document
3. text will appear at the end of the document

Current behavior:
pasted text appears not at cursor position when cursor is position before the end of a document.

Expected behavior:
text appears at cursor position and additional a question about the format like do you want to keep the original format or do want to use the target format

Platform (if different from the browser):
LibO: 3.5.7.2 XP/SP3
Browser: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 5.1; rv:16.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/16.0

@reporter
I'm afraid you will not find many outlook users here, so we need a test kit everybody can use. If you can contribute such a test kit please zip all documents (including screenshots, ...) into 1 zip document and attach that zip here.

This comment belongs to the above attached zip-file.
Ccpy & paste procedures are described in the included writer file.

Could be related to Bug 52229: text pasted from Adobe Reader as text/rtf was not inserted at cursor position but at end of document; and the document changed formatting. But this bug has already been corrected (for LO 3.6), and copying from Outlook could be working again with a newer version of LO.

@bugquestcontri and all: Could someone with outlook notes test and see if this bug is still valid for LO 4? I don't have Outlook so can't test.

I just tested again with 3.6.5.2 and the bug is still there.

I additionally observe in 3.6.5.2 that this bug happens also with notepad.

Unfortunately I don't have 4.0

I observed, just now, that crtl+v and selection of unformated text is a workaround.
This is good news. Bad news is that I observed similar strange paste-behavior recently more often. As soon as a I have bit more time when observing the bug, I will try to collect as much information as possible and place an update here.
