Do you mean "click holding Shift key" ?
Comment 2 Magalaan 2012-11-30 22:06:10 UTC
Yes clicking while holding shift-key

@Magalaan: Is my understanding right that you mean the following?

1. Open a new document in WRITER
2. Write any text with several words
3. Select one word (with for instance double left mouse click on the word)
4. Hold the Shift Key and make a single left mouse click on a word on the left or on the right of the already selected word
-> Result: Selection is extended to the position of the left mouse click
5. While still holding the Shift Key make a left mouse click inside the selected text to shrink the selection
