appears as menu item, rendering the menu wider than most screens.

If I understand correctly -- please correct me --, this is the same issue as in bug 58018, “Wrong entries in menu ‘File’”. However, you have provided a better description/explanation as that bug report provides ;-). Thank you for that!

Therefore I mark this report as a duplicate of bug 58018, but add your (better) description to the latter report.
