Damn numbering

Since old libreoffice (3.5.X, 3.6.X and now 4.X),
there is a bug, or a missing feature on numbering titles.

When you use "1. mytitle" and you write a paragraph, then you want to write "2. my second title", numbering restarts at 1.

Neither "resume numbering" nor "Continue previous numbering" has effect. It's very very penalizing when you write a big document, the only way is to make the titles 1., 1.1, 1.2, 2. , 2.1 ... together, or to cut/paste your paragraph. Many time is lost. If you can fix numbering before launch 4.0 it will be very very useful. I know many users which are like me, angry of this function, which make us lost a lot of time only for title numbering :s

Thanks for advance

hi Loic,

Is your intention to create outline numbering, numbered headings of chapters?
Then use Heading 1 for first level, heading 2 for second etc. and Tools > Outline numbering to choose the type of numbering (and more).

Pls let us know if that's what you want to describe.
Thanks,
Cor

No, that's not that, it's when you write thing like this:

-------------
1. title 1
1.1. subtitle 1
1.2. subtitle 2
2. title 2
-------------

etc..

Then, if i write

-------------
1. title 1
my text blah blah blah
-------------

and i want to create 2. title 2, here is the result:

-------------
1. title 1
my text blah blah blah

1. title 2
-------------

The result must be logical:

-------------
1. title 1
my text blah blah blah

2. title 2
-------------

Sorry for my bad english, it's not easy to translate what i think from french :)
It's not chapters heading, but the chips (i don't now if it's only an animal in english for french word "puce", sorry)

Sorry for not being clear with my question. We need a Writer document that shows the problem. Thanks.

Hello, here is a writer file to explain the problem

http://www.unix-experience.fr/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/numbering-problem.odt

I hope this will be resolved, this problem (if it's resolved) will add a great comfort with numbering, for all.

odt with two ways as you should work

Thanks - the ways to go are either use a list style, or use a heading style and tools > outline numbering.
See the attachment. Pls refer to our user support / documentation :-)
