Description devMgr 2013-03-14 18:49:40 UTC
An ods file is being used in "multi-writer" mode. (Its "Share this spreadsheet with other users" attribute is set True.)

All (7) workstations sharing the file are currently on LO v3.6.5.2. Over the lifetime of the problem some have been on earlier versions (e.g. 3.4 etc).

From time to time (not every time) over the past few months, on opening, the above error message (see Subject) is displayed. No additional information is available.

The remedy has been to restore a working copy from a snapshot or backup. This has usually resulted in loss of data.

As a variation, I recently tried presenting the same file to MS Excel (2007 SP3 build 12.0.6665.5003). There it is handled differently. The first message is "Excel found unreadable content in 'xxxx.ods'. Do you want to recover the contents of this workbook? If you trust the source of this workbook, click Yes."

On clicking Yes, the broken file is opened and the contents displayed. The message is "Excel was able to open the file by repairing or removing the unreadable content". Another pop-up links to an xml file that purports to offer further detail regarding the repair, but no real info is contained.

A sample (broken) ods file is available if that is likely to be of help - subject to owner's agreement.

Operating System: Windows XP
Version: 3.6.5.2 release

No 'guaranteed path to failure' available ... occurrence of problem unpredictable.

A sample 'broken' file (capable of being read by MS Excel, but not by LO) is attached.

I can confirm it with LibreOffice 4.1.1.2. I've tried to open the file with Gnumeric and the file opens normally, no error messages, no format erros, no performance problems.

If you resave the file with Gnumeric in ods format, LO can open the file without any problems.

As far as i know Microsoft's ODF version causes this warning, but i dont know is it possible to corrupt the file in saving process.

Best regards,
Zeki

This bug is no more in LO 4.2.0.4: the file is opened smooth without errors.
