Description Harald Koester 2013-05-10 13:35:36 UTC
Problem description:

Steps to reproduce:

[1] Open new text document.
[2] Insert rectangle. Rectangle is filled blue.
[3] Double click into rectangle: The cursor is positioned in the middle of the rectangle and you are able to insert text.
[4] If you have inserted text, delete it (all characters). Then Esc.
[5] Remove colour of rectangle: Context menu > Area... > Area > Fill > None
[6] Double click into rectangle in order to insert text. Nothing happens! Inserting text with double click is not possible !!! Expected: Inserting text possible like in step [3].
[7] First I did not found a possibility to insert text not at all. But there is of course a possibility, but you have to know and it's not obvious: “Double click” on “border line” of rectangle.

In Draw and Impress the behaviour is the same.

Well, you can discuss if it is a bug or not. E.g. there could be normal text in the backward which is visible through the non-filed rectangle and a double click should select a word of this text. But even if this is intended there should be a more intuitive way to add text to a rectangle or other basic shapes. 2 Proposals:
(1) Single click on border line in order to select the shape, then single click into shape.
(2) Menu item “Insert Text” in context menu of shape.

Operating System: Windows 7
Version: 4.0.2.2 release

Addendum:

You can also add text to a filled shape, if you select the shape and then start inserting text. This is also not possible with non-filled shapes. Expected: Inserting text directly after selection into non-filled shapes possible.

Double click the border of the shape and you should be able to insert text. For non filled shapes it's assumed that if you double click in the middle you are trying to select what's behind the shape, but if you double click on the border you can insert text to the shape.

Marking as NOTABUG.

If this doesn't work for you please report back.
