Description Sharky 2013-07-04 03:35:54 UTC
Ever since switching to 4.1.0.1 The justified text function seems to be jamming words and numbers together improperly. For example if I write a sentence with the words "an ally" it puts them together as "anally." This is pretty funny but is not what I meant.

It also does the same thing with numbers and words, such as "7 dwarves" being expressed as "7dwarves." This does not occur and appears normal when the text is left justified.

Please attach a test document and a screenshot of its rendering on your system.

Hello,
as I may have a similar problem on LibreOffice 4.1.0.1 ( build Id 1b3956717a60d6ac35b133d7b0a0f5eb55e9155 ), also on MacOSX 10.6.8, I just added some attachments: a basic test file with two screenshots....

I can not reproduce this here. I still need test documents and screenshot from the original reporter.

Osnan,

Yes, my problem is very similar to yours, I noticed in your file and screenshot it still showed odd spacing despite it not being justified. Maybe it is a more general problem?
Comment 10 Sharky 2013-07-06 02:06:34 UTC
By the way, this justify spacing problem goes away entirely when I go back to the current 4.0.4.2 version of Writer.
Comment 11 ⁨خالد حسني⁩ 2013-07-06 07:31:31 UTC
I can not reproduce the issue with the new file either.
Comment 12 osnola 2013-07-06 09:26:16 UTC
Sharky,
it may be related to some problem when computing the display position of the different characters: a problem which appears only when they are different fonts properties in the same line(*) and when we choose some <<non-standart justification>> ( via full justification or using condensed/extended character ).

But as we are using the same system and the same LibreOffice version, maybe a problem with this compiled version on OSX 10.6.8 ...

(*) sometimes this is hidden, for instance in your first paragraph, there are in fact a mix of two different properties :
<text:span text:style-name="T7">They are otherwise free to use Free, Mo</text:span>
<text:span text:style-name="T9">ve</text:span>
<text:span text:style-name="T7"> or </text:span>
<text:span text:style-name="T9">Full</text:span>
<text:span text:style-name="T7"> actions (even Running away!) as they normally would.</text:span>
which is not visible because T7 and T9 define the same property.

Note:
- this problem seems to disappear if I ask to print <<Nonprinting characters>>, so maybe it is only related to spaces' positions...
Comment 13 Sharky 2013-07-07 03:21:18 UTC
Yes, good observation. It disappears for me when I change text color or highlight the text, or when I show nonprinting characters.

I know jack squat about text properties, should probably look into that. Right now I'm happy with just going back to the current release.

I cannot reproduce this with 4.1.0.4 on OS X 10.7.5, on a non-retina machine.

Marking this as WORKSFORME, if the issue persists, please do not hesitate to reopen it.

Hello,
I just downloaded the LibreOffice 4.1 RC4 version and on OSX 10.6.8, all seems ok now, ie. I no longer see any problem with my file and with the Sharky files...
