hi, is this bug still present in current 4.0.5 or 4.1.1 releases? if yes, could you please upload a test big image file that causes the bug in your system? I've had this problem today running LibreOffice 4.1.2.3 on Ubuntu 13.10 The image file was initially 23MB (foolish to try really) but after I reduced the size to 731KB it was inserted without problem. I don't think I'll bother with uploading such a large test file - make one yourself :-) Cheers This would appear to be a problem specific to the JPG filter and the ability to handle file sizes greater than ~8,473,400 bytes (8.1 MB). The summary may need adjusting to more clearly reflect this fact. There is a file size restriction on what can be uploaded to bugzilla as an attachment, however in this case there are plenty of good quality large image files available from the Hubble Space Telescope e.g., http://www.spacetelescope.org/images/heic1107a/ http://www.spacetelescope.org/images/heic0601a/ The first image is available (in the sidebar under "Images") as: 1a Fullsize Original [TIF] (7887 x 7994 px; 119.8 MB) 1b Publication TIFF 4K (3946 x 4000 px; 29.6 MB) 1c Publication JPEG (3946 x 4000 px; 8.7 MB) ... and the second image (18000 x 18000 px) as: 2a Fullsize Original [TIF] (18000 x 18000 px; 385.1 MB 2b Large JPEG (18000 x 18000 px; 36.9 MB) 2c Publication TIFF 4K (4000 x 4000 px; 18.1 MB) 2d Publication JPEG (4000 x 4000 px; 4.1 MB) I have tested inserting all these images into a new Writer document under Crunchbang 11 x86_64 running v4.1.3.2 Build ID: 70feb7d99726f064edab4605a8ab840c50ec57a. Results: 1a inserts / saves OK. 1b inserts / saves OK. 1c inserts / saves OK. 2a inserts / saves OK. 2b "Graphics filter not found" error. 2c inserts / saves OK. 2d inserts / saves OK. This would appear to confirm the error message as reported. Using the ImageMagick (6.7.7-10 2012-11-06 Q16) convert utility, I converted file 2a (large original TIF) into a few different common raster formats: 3a $ convert heic0601a_orig.tif heic0601a_orig_convert.jpg (18000 x 18000 px; 27.5 MB) 3b $ convert heic0601a_orig.tif heic0601a_orig_convert.png (18000 x 18000 px; 333.4 MB) 3c $ convert heic0601a_orig.tif -quality 4 heic0601a_orig_convert_Paeth.png (18000 x 18000 px; 321.3 MB) 3d $ convert heic0601a_orig.tif heic0601a_orig_convert.gif (18000 x 18000 px; 187.3 MB) 3e $ convert heic0601a_orig.tif heic0601a_orig_convert.bmp (18000 x 18000 px; 927.0 MB) Results of insertion into a new Writer document: 3a (JPG) "Graphics filter not found" error. 3b (PNG) inserts / saves OK. 3c (PNG) inserts / saves OK. 3d (GIF) inserts / saves OK. 3e (BMP) inserts / saves OK. So only the JPG filter appears to be experiencing any problem with larger file sizes. Using the convert utility again I resized the converted JPG: 4a $ convert heic0601a_orig_convert.jpg -resize 90% heic0601a_orig_convert_jpg_90pc.jpg (result: 16200 x 16200 px; 22.7 MB) 4b $ convert heic0601a_orig_convert.jpg -resize 80% heic0601a_orig_convert_jpg_80pc.jpg (result: 14400 x 14400 px; 18.4 MB) 4c $ convert heic0601a_orig_convert.jpg -resize 70% heic0601a_orig_convert_jpg_70pc.jpg (result: 12600 x 12600 px; 14.4 MB) 4d $ convert heic0601a_orig_convert.jpg -resize 60% heic0601a_orig_convert_jpg_60pc.jpg (result: 10800 x 10800 px; 10.5 MB) 4e $ convert heic0601a_orig_convert.jpg -resize 55% heic0601a_orig_convert_jpg_55pc.jpg (result: 9900 x 9900 px; 8.8 MB) 4f $ convert heic0601a_orig_convert.jpg -resize 53% heic0601a_orig_convert_jpg_53pc.jpg (result: 9540 x 9540 px; 8.2 MB) 4g $ convert heic0601a_orig_convert.jpg -resize 52% heic0601a_orig_convert_jpg_52pc.jpg (result: 9360 x 9360 px; 7.9 MB) 4h $ convert heic0601a_orig_convert.jpg -resize 9500x9500 heic0601a_orig_convert_jpg_9500px.jpg (result: 9500 x 9500 px; 8.1 MB) 4i $ convert heic0601a_orig_convert.jpg -resize 9460x9460 heic0601a_orig_convert_jpg_9460px.jpg (result: 9460 x 9460 px; 8.1 MB) 4j $ convert heic0601a_orig_convert.jpg -resize 9459x9459 heic0601a_orig_convert_jpg_9459px.jpg (result: 9459 x 9459 px; 8.1 MB) 4k $ convert heic0601a_orig_convert.jpg -resize 9450x9450 heic0601a_orig_convert_jpg_9450px.jpg (result: 9450 x 9450 px; 8.1 MB) Results of insertion into a new Writer document: 4a (16200 x 16200 px; 22.7 MB) "Graphics filter not found" error. 4b (14400 x 14400 px; 18.4 MB) "Graphics filter not found" error. 4c (12600 x 12600 px; 14.4 MB) "Graphics filter not found" error. 4d (10800 x 10800 px; 10.5 MB) "Graphics filter not found" error. 4e (9900 x 9900 px; 8.8 MB) "Graphics filter not found" error. 4f (9540 x 9540 px; 8.2 MB) "Graphics filter not found" error. 4g (9360 x 9360 px; 7.9 MB) inserts / saves OK. 4h (9500 x 9500 px; 8.1 MB) "Graphics filter not found" error. 4i (9460 x 9460 px; 8.1 MB) "Graphics filter not found" error. 4j (9459 x 9459 px; 8.1 MB) inserts / saves OK. 4k (9450 x 9450 px; 8.1 MB) inserts / saves OK. There seems to be a filesize limit around the 8,473,332 (4i) to 8,473,447 (4j) byte mark for JPGs. Forcing the geometry above 9460 px is possible using: $ convert heic0601a_orig_convert.jpg -resize 9500x9300 heic0601a_orig_convert_jpg_9500x9300px.jpg (result: 9500 x 9300 px; 8,367,299 bytes) ... and this file can be inserted / saved OK. (In reply to comment #3) > This would appear to be a problem specific to the JPG filter and the ability > to handle file sizes greater than ~8,473,400 bytes (8.1 MB). > 1c Publication JPEG (3946 x 4000 px; 8.7 MB) > There seems to be a filesize limit around the 8,473,332 (4i) to 8,473,447 > (4j) byte mark for JPGs. Forcing the geometry above 9460 px is possible Sorry, this is not as clear as it could be. The problem appears to be a combination of file size + geometry (dimension) of JPGs. Hopefully others can repeat the problem with the indicated test files. Dear Bug Submitter, This bug has been in NEEDINFO status with no change for at least 6 months. Problem description: Steps to reproduce: 1. Click Insert>Picture>From File 2. If the image file is too big, the warning "Graphics filter not found" appears 3. However, when the image file is small, it will have no problem inserting into the writer document. Maybe need to have graphic filter installed as extension/plugin for large image file in libreoffice.
