Description bugquestcontri 2013-08-03 01:26:07 UTC
Problem description:

Although I did not understand the full functionality of the old template manager (last used version 3.6.6), I am quite disappointed with the functionality and appearance of the one in 4.0.

I do feel very sorry for the person who wrote the code with plenty of good intentions and a lot of hard work. This made me hesitating to write the bug report already for a while.

I only use it only to save a template. Even here I cannot click anymore on an existing template name and just do the name changes I need to do.
However, sorting, grouping and deleting etc I do just in a normal folder window (OS: XP)
Double clicking opens a new file based on this template, and right click and Open allows modification to a template.

In Nabble there was also recently a thread of mail concerning this topic
http://nabble.documentfoundation.org/template-menu-tt4064119.html#a4064600
There might be even more.

If there is interest and a chance to either go back to old template manager or develop a better one, I am willing to collect more detailed information to help to improve LibO in this respect.

Operating System: All
Version: 4.0.4.2 release

There is some trouble around this yes.

Can you read this query?
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/buglist.cgi?cmdtype=runnamed&namedcmd=TemplateManager&list_id=329994

Anyway: there are quite some bugs.
Could you try to look if your problem can be specified and/or already is reported pls?
thanks,
Cor

I will try to collect information on what I think is good and what not. However this might take a bit of time. Kick my legs when you urgently need information. I will try my best.

What is urgent ?? Any help in clearing the information is highly appreciated of course!
But if you have no special topic, I'll close this bug, assuming it's covered by one of the others. OK?

Hi Cor,
sorry I was not able to collect additional information. Just too busy.

I looked today again into the templates, it seems that I understand it a bit better now where I find and save template. It seems to me that I did not understand sufficiently the difference between "All Templates" and "MyTemplates".

However when I use "Save as template" I still cannot see the name of other templates for the same application; thus, if I don't remember the exact name of template I want to replace, I cannot do this is in straight forward manor. This functionality of the old template manager was excellent.

OK, fair enough.

When I choose File > Templates > Save as Templates... the existing ones are visible?

hi bqc,

As written, enough issues with the template-manager. But this one is - as far as I can judge - a WORKSFORME. Pls feel free to prove me wrong ;)
