Description Lionel Elie Mamane 2013-08-06 16:47:52 UTC
The LibreOffice 4.1 "debian-menus" .deb registers Writer as handler for "text/plain" files (in /usr/share/applications/libreoffice4.1-writer.desktop).

Writer is a poor choice as text editor; a typical / "default install" desktop will have *much* better choices, such as emacs, kate, gedit, ... It should leave the system select one of those instead.

Lionel - pushing this to NEW, I completely agree. I just recently had to change defaults on my system because of this one

On a standard Ubuntu installation, writer is a possible choice to edit plain text files but it is not the first one. By default text plain files open with gedit. So for me it is not a bug.
