Description BikeHelmet 2013-09-12 22:50:28 UTC
Problem description:

When at the main screen choosing what to create (Word doc, spreadsheet, etc.), triple-clicking an option freezes the program.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Find an older slower computer.
2. Open LibreOffice.
3a. Single-click the icon to make a new word doc. (It opens a blank document.)
3b. Double-click the icon to make a new word doc. (It opens a blank document.)
3c. Triple-click the icon to make a new word doc. (It freezes LibreOffice.)

Current behavior:

Unknown. But in v410 it freezes LibreOffice.

Expected behavior:

If your computer is slow enough, LibreOffice freezes. If I had to guess why, maybe because the click event isn't dealt with promptly, so the second click event throws LibreOffice into an endless loop?

Probably the best way to diagnose this on a decent computer is to script it with AutoHotkey, but my main computer was too fast to reproduce it even with that. That said, I know someone with a crappy Celeron D (P4 era) which can reproduce it perfectly. The computer was running Vista x86 and was proected by Microsoft Security Essentials, if that matters.

can't reproduce it with LibO 4.1.1 on a Win7 64bit 5-years old laptop (probably it's not old enough).

does the bug happens with any of the icons or just with some of them?
which LibO version do you see this bug?

Hi tommy27,

The only two that I checked were documents and spreadsheets - but it happened with both of those.

If it doesn't manifest in 4.1.1 for you, then...
1) It was fixed between 4.1.0 and 4.1.1
2) Your laptop isn't old enough or slow enough.
3) The issue does not affect Windows 7? (I couldn't reproduce it on my computer either.)

It wouldn't be anything to do with having a PS/2 mouse, would it? I know PS/2 is more "low level" than USB (at least on Windows where it isn't plug'n'play), but I'd assume everything still passes through a higher level input queue, and weird stuff (like an event triggering while another is still being processed) would not happen.

Anyone else got ideas on what might cause it?

not reproducible on my old desktop WinXP 32bit SP3 bought in 2006
Pentium 4 - 3.00GHz - 2GB RAM

please answer these questions:
1- which exact LibO version you see this bug?
2- which are the specs of your old computer?
3- why do you use triple-click instead of double-click? it is just accidental or intended?
4- is this triple-click freeze reproducible on your PC with old LibO release? try downloading any of these portable version (you don't need to unistall yours) at this link: http://sourceforge.net/projects/winpenpack/files/X-LibreOffice/releases/
