Description Bastián Díaz 2013-10-01 18:36:27 UTC
Description of problem:
Currently, LO Impress inserted values footer as text boxes master page. That prevents easy editing of these values by the user (font, size, color) because we have to modify the master page and create styles if there are different designs of slides in a presentation.

Moreover, the footer values that are set in a presentation to be saved in OpenDocumen or Office Open XML format, in LO Impress, are not recognized by other software (Eg MS Power Point).

However, if you save a presentation using MS PowerPoint (*.odt or *.pptx) values "Footer" are displayed correctly in LO Impress, as these fields are set as text boxes.

Version-Release number of selected component:
fedora 19 32 bits (GNOME)
LibreOffice Version: 4.1.2.2 Build ID: 4.1.2.2-1.fc19

Additional info:
Currently LO Impress has an option to insert fields. The proposal is to set the values from the "Header and Footer" inserter selected fields as in the "Insert Fields" option.

Thanks

Hi Bastián,

thanks for the issue/idea.

I see two topics:

1. footer texts changing is done via masterpages

2. export to MsOOXML is not OK

AD1: I would say that you can insert separate text boxes whenever you like :)
But maybe handling of the styles could be more easy?
Would you mind to think about this and maybe look in BugZilla (if not too complicated) if issues around that exist?

AD2: can you make a separate issue for that (and maybe fist look in BugZilla too for possible existing issues)

thanks again,
Cor

Hi Cor, thank you for your attention.

Exactly on the proposed improvements I mentioned, there are these two topics, however, my interest is to improve the user experience when working with menu format "Header and Footer".

That's true, but it would be an automated process (similar to a footnote in LO writer).
There is no way to edit the content or format of the footer, directly on the slide.

> But maybe handling of the styles could be more easy?

I'm not sure I understand. When I talk about text boxes, I mean that when you insert the footer, boxes appear with set values, similar to interactive text boxes (text, images, video, etc.) of the "slide layouts" (in fact slide layouts leave a space at the bottom for the footer).

So, the footer can be part of the slide layouts (if activate), and that in any case, there is a space reserved for those values.

I add to that other office software suite, work the same way, like MS Office, Corel Wordperfect, WPS Office... (text box) and help new users with the learning curve when using LO (I persuaded some friends to use IT and I was struck by how complicated formatting footers on the slides).

Ok, I'll do a search, but it is likely that this feature is not widely used.

I'll look in bugzilla related reports, but I'll create a new one. There are other export small errors (such as the text is not kept within the text box).

Thanks

This is still marked as "unconfirmed".

Hi,

I set this as WorksForMe for the footer, since the route Instert > Page number (and others) is not that hard ;)
If there is a smaple foor OOXML export that needs improvement, pls report!

thanks a lot,
Cor
