Description Herb 2013-10-12 13:40:05 UTC
Problem description: Lexmark printers (E360dn and C544) do not print.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Open any document
2. STRG+P or by icon
3. Print

Current behavior: First time printer is making some noise put does not grab the paper. At the next times I want to print, printer does nothing.

Expected behavior: Printing

It occours only with Lexmark printers. Kyocera and Epson work as expected.
Also printing from other applications (firefox, Gedit, kate) does work with the Lexmark printers.

PPD is called: E360dn, Postscript-Lexmark 20130226 (Openprinting LSB 3.2)

PS
I'm not sure about the latest known-working version as it is a new system and the old laptop is formated.

Operating System: Ubuntu
Version: 4.1.2.3 rc
Comment 1 Herb 2013-10-12 14:06:35 UTC
Addition:
The problem is occuring when printing by (W)LAN and by USB.
Comment 2 tommy27 2013-10-13 19:30:02 UTC
do other applications print with no issue?
Comment 3 Herb 2013-10-14 06:49:04 UTC
As I wrote:
Other applications (firefox, Gedit, kate) does work with the Lexmark printers.

If I should test any other programs or if you need any other informatioin let me know.
Right now I'm not in the office.

PS
Of course the stated driver is only used for the E360dn and not for the c544.

Hi Herb, did you get ppd from producer site? How about printing with driver provided by Ubuntu official repo?

Have you tried printing with Postscript (level from driver) printer languange? Because there are several issues with PDF printer languange. To make sure:

Uncheck "PDF as Standard Print Job" in: Tools > Options > Print
Comment 5 Herb 2013-10-14 12:33:20 UTC
Hi Christian,

I think I tried both drivers (Ubuntu repository and Lexmark itself).
If it is a matter of the driver shouldn't there be a problem with all applications?

I also have tried to switch of "PDF as Standard Print Job" already.

Hopefully I can do some more testing tomorow.

Herb, please make sure you're not using that PDF option. And confirm that in print dialog box while you will do printing on printer properties: 'Postscript (level from driver)' should be selected. Try also level 1/2/3.

My suspicion is tray issue. Maybe this fixed bug related:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libreoffice/+bug/994388

You could also try playing with paper size and portrait/landscape to help indentify the real problem.

Please also inform your detailed Ubuntu distro.

OK I jsut did some testing.
First I selected another driver.
Printing an empty page out of LO: working
Printing a page with just "test" out of LO: working
Printing the document, I first encountered the Problem: 900.43 Firmware Error at the display of the printer (E360dn).

So what is special about the document:
It was a DOC-File altered and saved as ODT.

So I opened the file again as DOC-File and tried printing: working.
Did a smaller alteration than before and tried printing: working.

So I think it has something to do with the alterations I did to the document.
There are some forumulas in the document I edited with the formula-editor.

I can attache the documents at the end of the week but not now.

so it seems it's not a "printer side" issue but a "document side issue".

do you encounter printing issues with other documents?

if not I think this report has to be closed and a new clean one regarding that specific document has to be opened instead (poste here a link to the new bug number)

Sorry for not responding for a long time.

In the meantime I found the cause of the strange behaviour.

It is the font "Linux Libertine" which is packed within Ubuntu.

For more explanation look here:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libreoffice/+bug/1018069

Thank you

@Herb
thanks for feedback. let's close this report which got too messy in the meantime.
I think is better if you start a new clean report about the real cause of the problem after doing a bugzilla query to see if that has not been reported yet.
