Description dec 2013-11-16 04:16:29 UTC
I am using Version: 4.1.2.3
Build ID: 40b2d7fde7e8d2d7bc5a449dc65df4d08a7dd38

OS X 10.8.5, MacBook Pro

I built a medium-sized spreadsheet (about 40 columns by 250 lines) and charted some of the data (about 12 columns). I periodically saved, but at some point, when I was fine-tuning the lines connecting the chart points, the manual save gave an error and I could not recover the file on restarting after LibreOffice crashed. The file itself was missing from the folder where I created it. I did not have the automatic backup turned on at this point.

I turned on automatic backup and redid the spreadsheet (very similar, but not identical, since it was from my own memory) and this time turned auto-backup on. After building the spreadsheet, but before creating and editing the chart, I saved an extra copy of the file in another location. I also verified that backups were being created.

The same thing happened again at about the same stage, as I was modifying lines on the chart. LibreOffice crashed on trying to save, could not recover the file, and the .ods file itself was missing from the folder. The backup file also disappeared from the backup folder (~\Library\Application Support\LibreOffice\4\user\backup). When checking that, I noticed a greyed-out file size (18 KB) for the backup folder, which later disappeared, replaced by "Zero Bytes".

I have not attempted file recovery.

Hi dec,

this sounds like a pretty severe bug. So do you have any file this is reproducible with? Is this bug still valid / reproducible with the latest LO release? Currently 4.1.3.2: http://www.libreoffice.org/download/

Could you please attach the document in question? That would help speed up the process of confirming and successively fixing this bug a lot.

Setting to NEEDINFO until more detail is provided.

After providing the requested info, please reset this bug to UNCONFIRMED. Thanks :)

Hi--

I'll work on duplicating the bug. Since the file itself disappears, along
with the LO backup, I don't have an example to pass along. I'll have to
recreate a similar file, do multiple incremental saves, then send the last
version that works with a note as to what happens next.

Thanks for getting on this.

Hi, Foss--

I've attached a ZIP file with further information - the file that eventually showed the bug (since the bug seems to delete the file, this is the last good version), a description of the bug, and a series of screen shots showing the on-screen behavior.

I am using LO 4.1.2.3; when I check for updates, the message is that LibreOffice is up to date. I do see from your link below that 4.1.3 is available for OS X and will update when I get a chance, but see if the attached description is helpful at all.

Thanks--
