Description skopidia1 2013-11-26 13:58:33 UTC
Problem description:

This problem occurs using LinuxMint 13 (Maya) 64bit version. The 32bit version of LinuxMint13 does not produce this error.

The error occurred with a number of versions of LibreOffice. The last version I tried was LibreOffice 4.1.3 Writer (Linux, 64 bit) The error also occurs with LibreOffice 3.4 (Ubuntu-precise) which is the branded version used by LinuxMint 13 x64.

I created a large file in LibreOffice Writer (263 pages with a couple dozen photos). Then I exported the document to PDF/A-1a After one or two of the graphics, the caption text immediately below is partly missing. The rest of the photos and captions are fine.

In LibreOffice Writer (i.e. before export) the text and graphics are fine. Also, the exact same file, converted to PDF on the 32bit version of LinuxMint13 comes out fine.

Is this a problem with LibreOffice? Are there settings within the LinuxMint 13 x64 Operating system which govern PDF creation which I need to change? Could it be that there is a bug in the LinuxMint OS?

Steps to reproduce:
1. See above.
2. ....
3. ....

Current behavior:

Expected behavior:

Operating System: Linux (Other)
Version: unspecified

I can't reproduce on Fedora 20 64 bit. Can you narrow this down a bit pls?

Like is the problem still apparent after 10/20 pages with a couple dozen photos?

Dear Tim,

The attached files were made running LinuxMint 13, 64 bit, or 32 bit for
comparison.

*Test-Original_odt-file.odt* Created with LibreOfficeWriter
4.1.3.2, 64 bit. Photo and caption are fine. Used for both exports.

*TEST-LO_4-1-3-2_x64.pdf* Exported from LO Writer 4.1.3.2 64 bit.
*Part of the caption is missing*!

*TEST-LO_4-0-6-2_32-bit.pdf* Exported from LO Writer 4.0.6.2 32 bit
*Caption is fine.**
*
*Screenshot-PDF-options.png* shows PDF export options (PDFA/1-a) used
on both systems.

You can see from these files, that when the photo and caption are
exported using the 32 bit version, they come out fine. When they are
exported using the 64 bit version, part of the the caption is gone.
This makes me think that there has to be a bug (or at least a major
difference) in the 64 bit version.

I copied this graphic and caption from a large file, for the sake of
simplicity. As you can see, the problem still occurred, which makes me
think the problem has nothing to do with the file size.

Thanks for your help!

Hi, sorry for the delayed reply. Thanks for the extra files and the PDFs.

I am afraid I still can't reproduce the problem with Fedora 64bit.

This problem arose using LibreOffice Writer on Linux Mint 13 - 64bit
MATE OS. The problem showed up with

  * LibreOffice 4.1.3.2 (installed from .deb files from LibreOffice.org
    website,
  * LibreOffice 4.0.5  and
  * with LibreOffice 3.5.7 (installed from Linux Mint / Ubuntu repository).

Today, I tested it using the Linux Mint 64bit Live CD . The problem did
not occur: the captions were fine.

It seems that the problem is probably not in LibreOffice Writer itself,
or in Linux Mint 13, but in the configuration of my system.

I know this goes beyond the scope of a bug-report, but any hint you
might have about what the problem might be would be appreciated. I will
try a new, clean installation of the OS and let you know what happens.

I made a new, clean installation of Linux Mint 13-64bit, and used the
Update Manager to make all Level 1, 2 and 3 updates.
I tested LibreOffice Writer 3.5.7, using the files submitted.
The problem did not occur. The captions were fine.

This problem has me stumped, because Linux Mint was running without any
other problems before the re-installation.

It could very well be that this is not a bug in LibreOffice Writer, but
rather a compatibility issue with Linux Mint. Since it does not seem
possible to reproduce it on any other system, it may be nearly
impossible to track down the source of the problem.
