Translation of initial submission : Example Writer document as PDF with note One can not see the date when one changes the date via Insert > Field > Date (fixed or variable). Instead, a black bar / block of text is displayed, the only way to see the date is via a print preview, or the preview tool from the toolbar. Alex Can not confirm on Linux 64bit master : Version: 4.3.0.0.alpha0+ Build ID: 9a03791dc8e46f90566aab5d121309d61ad1576b Can not reproduce on Linux Mint 64bit : Version: 4.1.3.2 Build ID: 410m0(Build:2) either. Possibly Windows only bug. Alex I can not reproduce either. May be a field shading problem, could you try to remove shading with Ctrl+F8 and see if it solves your issue.
