Description SenBen 2013-12-31 17:35:57 UTC
Text entered on one tab of a spreadsheet is duplicated on the adjacent tab, overwriting what was there previously.

This method reliably re-creates the problem for me:

1. Start LibreOffice Calc (an empty spreadsheet appears).
2. Click on "+" to add a second tab.
3. Enter random text in different cells of Sheet1.
4. The text entered in Sheet1 appears in Sheet2 as well.

Also, if you now duplicate Sheet1 by Ctrl+click on the tab then drag to the right and release, then you get two new tabs: Sheet1_2 and Sheet2_2.

Have seen problem many times with several versions of LibreOffice. Tried uninstalling and re-installing - makes no difference.

To avoid the problem, one has to use spreadsheets with a single tab only.

Operating system: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium

Hi SenBen, thanks for reporting.

What you are describing happens when two or more sheets are selected.

LibreOffice help.

Copying to Multiple Sheets
In LibreOfficeDev Calc, you can insert values, text or formulas that are simultaneously copied to other selected sheets of your document.
Select all desired sheets by holding down the Ctrl key and clicking the corresponding register tabs that are still gray at the bottom margin of the workspace. All selected register tabs are now white.
You can use Shift+Ctrl+Page Up or Page Down to select multiple sheets using the keyboard.
Now when you insert values, text or formulas into the active sheet, they will also appear in the identical positions in the other selected sheets. For example, data entered in cell A1 of the active sheet is automatically entered into cell A1 of any other selected sheet.
"

Is this your case?

Yes, exactly.

Control+PageUp/Down = select next tab

Shift+Control+PageUp/Down = select next tab AND replicate edits across the selected sheets.

I stopped pressing Shift (bad habit) and the "problem" has gone away.

With Shift the previous tab remains in white (=selected), while without Shift it returns to light gray (=deselected). The difference is visually subtle.

The user can change the tab colour to something more striking (blue, red, violet) to make it more visually obvious whenever multiple tabs are selected (white).

I hope this bug report at least will help others who encounter this behaviour. It's been driving me crazy for weeks.

Now I understand that this is a feature, not a bug. So the report can be closed as "user error".

Many thanks for your quick and helpful response.
