Error Message from Contoso-Presentation.pptx
This is a strange bug. On a separate Win 7 32-bit box, I tried to open this file with:
master~2014-01-27_02.13.17_LibreOfficeDev_4.3.0.0.alpha0_Win_x86.msi
The first attempt was successful, but I had made changes to the LO settings, so I deleted my profile at C:\Users\luke\AppData\Roaming\LibreOfficeDev\4
The next attempt to open, I received an error message "General Input/Output". Every attempt after that to open the file resulted in the entire LO office suite freezing exactly as it does on the my other Win 7 64-bit box that I first noticed the bug on.
Can anyone else confirm this bug?
I fired up my Win 7 64-bit box to test: Version: 4.3.0.0.alpha0+ Build ID: 39026305e25d3b010e95a0dfa3ae9ca4f1319e98 TinderBox: Win-x86@47-TDF, Branch:MASTER, Time: 2014-01-27_02:13:17 After starting up the .pptx file opened. But after opening google chrome and some other apps, the .pptx froze the second time I tried to open it. I rebooted my machine and when I tried to open it, I saw the same "General Input/Output" error that I saw on my 32-bit box. All subsequent attempts to open the file failed. I then restarted my 32-bit box, and the file opened again, but failed to open after I had opened up some additional apps. Could this be a memory allocation/de-allocation issue? It does not show up when the OS's memory is relatively clean(after a reboot). NoRepro:4.2.0.3:OSX Test File opens fine. NoRepro:4.3.0.0a0+:OSX Version: 4.3.0.0.alpha0+ Build ID: f571104ef38ba9f7f6073e22c2374add7aa73887 TinderBox: MacOSX-x86@49-TDF, Branch:master, Time: 2014-01-28_00:11:59 Test file opens fine. Luke, since you do very thorough bug reporting, let's wait for a windows user to verify this. For the time being I set OS to windows. tested under Win7 64bit test .pptx file can be opened in 4.1.4.2, 4.2.0.4 and 4.3.0.0.alpha0+ (*) I mark this as RESOLVED WORKSFORME. @Luke try a recent 4.3 master build and feel free to reopen if you still experience the freeze (*) Build ID: ecf22894f522374cbdb8196d3bdef88e2fba7af9 TinderBox: Win-x86@39, Branch:master, Time: 2014-02-15_01:01:1 @tommy27 I also cannot reproduce on earlier 4.1.x builds, so I'm not surprised you couldn't either. The official 4.2.0 release is the first build that I can reproduce it on. As I discussed in Comment 1, this is an intermittent bug that only shows up when the system is low on resources. On a fresh reboot, I can almost never reproduce this bug. Please try with one of the builds from Win-X86@39: http://dev-builds.libreoffice.org/daily/master/win-x86@39/ I was able to reproduce this consistently with: Version: 4.3.0.0.alpha0+ Build ID: a53577e6ff3629c4e9219616960d89eea9463593 TinderBox: Win-x86@39, Branch:master, Time: 2014-02-24_01:49:31 While the original .pptx is still loaded, try loading the stripped down version of this file, attachment 83071 [details]. Both files together seem to trigger this bug more easily. How much memory do you have on your 64-bit box? I only have 4GB on my laptop, and I think this may be a memory issue. I will test later this evening. I have 4GB too on my laptop. however as a developer told me, even if you have more the 4GB, LibO cannot use more than that since it's a 32bit application and has an intrinsic limit in Windows. mmmhhhh... very strange, I have no troubles at all loading both those .pptx files in latest 4.3 master (*) while I now see freeze with 4.2.0.4 when trying to load each one of those files. I wonder now if I was really using 4.2.0.4 in previous tests in comment 4... anyway the bug is reproducible in that version so I have to change the version field and set status to NEW. what is again strange is that I see no issue with 4.3 master unlike you, and I was using master together with multiple other applications running, not just LibO... moreover I was able to load .pptx in 4.3 immediately after that file made 4.2 freeze, so the computer situation was pretty the same It would be interesting to test against 4.2.1 which is not yet available on my PC. (*) Build ID: a53577e6ff3629c4e9219616960d89eea9463593 TinderBox: Win-x86@39, Branch:master, Time: 2014-02-24_01:49:31 This file will now open in 4.3.0.2 and 4.4.0.0.alpha0+. Nice work team! |
