task manager screen shot

Problem description:
LibreOffice uses about 7-10 times more memory (RAM) compared to Microsoft Office 2003.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Run LibreOffice (Writer for example)- empty doc
2. Run Word 2003 - empty doc

Current behavior:
LibreOffice needs ~100MB RAM, while Word 2003 needs only ~15MB RAM.

Expected behavior:
Expected is to use less memory, on some old machines this influence the start-up and performance a lot.

Operating System: Windows XP
Version: 4.1.4.2 release

Libreoffice is a monolithic software package, so it is expected to take up more memory.

Also, Libreoffice is positioning itself as an alternative to the latest commercial office software, so compatibility with legacy hardware is not a priority.

OK its clear.
But still the difference in performance is significant. On equal files on computer that meets the system requirements of the LibreOffice (at least 2x above them) it is almost impossible to work smoothly with Writer (it hang up occasionally), while same file in Word 2003 works smoothly and lightly. I'm considering that LibreOffice is targeting modern computer systems, but finally this is a word processor (Writer) and it is not supposed to be heavy as a first person shooter game in my opinion.
Kind regards
