Creating a new testStyle.
Newly created testStyle is there
No testStyle header is available
No testStyle in Page Styles window
Aren't two different styles are claimed for the same page?

Description regid23 2014-03-02 23:54:36 UTC
I am trying to follow the instructions in the URL. Either I don't understand them, or something is wrong. Specifically, I expected to see the new style in the list of the available headers in step 5. But only the Default Style was in the list. Did I do something wrong?

I just did a test and indeed it works - best to ask questions on the ask site as FDO is only for bugs which this isn't - just a user question :) head over to this link: http://ask.libreoffice.org/ and I'm sure someone will be able to help.

Thanks!

http://ask.libreoffice.org/en/users/1480/rost52/ confirmed this bug at http://ask.libreoffice.org/en/question/30625/writer-only-default-style-is-in-the-headers-list-after-creating-a-new-style/. He also described a work around, which I didn't understand.

Is it OK that the bug is VERIFIED and INVALID?
Should I changed it in my previous comment to REOPENED?

Can you screenshot your styles dialog and post it here?

pressing F11

Not sure what screenshot was asked for. Tried to upload a series of screenshots. Turned out I can only upload one attachment at a time. More screenshots follow. I hope it will make the picture complete.

Newly created testStyle is there

Newly created testStyle is there. screenshot was taken immediately after confirming the creation of testStyle in the Create Style window. The document picked it up automatically. I didn't had to double-click the name in the list to apply the style to the current page. Which doen't agree with step 4 of https://help.libreoffice.org/Writer/Creating_a_Page_Style_Based_on_the_Current_Page.

No testStyle header is available

For completeness, a screenshot to show that testStyle is supposedly, or truly, applied to the page. Yet there is no testStyle for the header.

Ohh you're just looking in the wrong location. Press F11 or go to Format -> Styles and Formatting. Dialog will come up - make sure to select "Page Style" icon (4th one). Any new page styles will be there :)

No testStyle in Page Styles window

I am not sure I understood when should I go to the "Page Styles" (4th) icon. I obtained the following screenshot after:
1. ctrl+N
2. F11
3. Clicking the rightmost icon to create the testStyle. It has been created.
4. Clicking on the "Page Styles" (4th) icon and taking the attached screenshot.
There is no testStyle in the Page Styles window.
If I did not understood the right order of actions I should have taken, do guide me with more detailed instructions.

You have created a paragraph style not a page style. If you see where it says "testStyle" that is where paragraph styles are located.

If you want a new page style (with unique headers and all the other goodies that come with pages) then you must go into the location where you are (page styles, 4th icon) right click in the empty space and do "new"

Paragraph styles only apply to paragraphs - if you select the paragraph styles (1st icon) you'll see the style that you created.

For further guidance I highly recommend asking on ask site, joining the IRC channel at #libreoffice, or sending an email to the user list.

I am closing this again as NOTABUG - in general the bug tracker isn't for getting this kind of guidance and these questions should go to user forum. Styles/Formatting work as designed/expected

Aren't two different styles are claimed for the same page?

I attached a similar screenshot to the one I posted a few minutes ago. With the new screenshot, I have marked with a red rectangle two places. One of the red rectangles is near the upper left corner of the image. The other one is near the bottom left corner. Aren't two different page styles claimed for the same page? Is that another symptom of the same problem?
