Please, could you describe a use-case in which this functionality could be useful?

Please note that the compression dialog shows data about the image to be compressed. It could be not easy to make a dialog for the case of multiple files.

Set status to NEEDINFO. Please set it back to UNCONFIRMED once you have provided requested informations. Thank you for your understanding.

Best regards. JBF

Not a bug, set importance to enhancement.
Comment 3 marco.jj 2014-08-24 22:52:49 UTC
Sorry, yes. Is not a bug, but enhancement.
Example:
In my office many people insert to write document 20 photo to make a daily report about street problem. Photo is made by 14 Mpx camera (2/3 Mb for 1 file!)
So 1 document is about 40/50 MB!

1st solution that i will enhancement: select 20 image in the same time (now is not possible) and select "image compression" and apply the same compression (ex: Jpeg compression = 60%) for all image.

2nd solution that i will enhancement: select only 1 image and select "image compression" in the compression option windows ad a push botton or a switch to apply the actual setting to "all image of document".

This funtion will save many minutes. Now my colleagues select and change image one by one.
Thank you. Excuse me for my english and if i don't clear.

Ok, your wish is to have a function like "minimize the presentation" in Impress.
Changed summary accordingly.

Valid enhancement, set status to NEW.

Moving to component Writer.

I suggest to not fiddle around with multiple selection but have a separate function. Either Format > Image > Compress All... or something with save, perhaps along with an option similar to LibO > Print > Reduce bitmaps.

Also in new 7.2 version is not possible to reduce all the document image.
I hope is possible to enhance Write like the funtion in IMPRESS - Tools -> Minimize presentation:

I too vote for this lack. Managing images in a document is as important as managing text. On the other hand, I noticed a worsening in version 7.2 compared to 7.1 because the current "Compress..." command does not recognize the type of image or how much it occupies.
The lack of a function that allows a mass adjustment of the resolution and compression of the images is noticeable.

Please, do not change version number: https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/page.cgi?id=fields.html#version

I vote for this feature too. Be carefull with the option which transforms the images (see other bugs related to image compression dialog).

The kind of image should not change :
- transform lossless compression format into lossless compression format (png, ...)
- transform lossy compression format into lossy compression format (jpeg, ...)

For lossless compression format, maybe an option should provide the indexed colour feature (~ 256 colours automatically chosen among billions of coulours).

Maybe think about a threshold for the image resolution tranformation. For example, if you choose to reduce to 200dpi, the tool shouldn't change the image with resolution between 200 dpi and 300 dpi (otherwise those images will have a perceptible quality loss and could increase in size). Maybe the threshold which triggers the transformation should be a parameter by default set to 1,5 times the new resolution target.

This is already discussed in length in Bug 34133, although as a global solution for all modules. A few different potential solutions are offered there.
