In Writer there is an icon and a corresponding shortcut (Ctrl+F10) which switches Nonprinting Characters on/off. This feature is missing in Calc.

Valid request - moving to NEW.

Interestingly enough, Excel doesn't have it either....seems like an unnecessary omission.

@Knut - just so you don't have false expectations. LibreOffice volunteers almost exclusively tackle enhancement request. All I'm saying is that it's a valid request, not that it will ever be implemented. A volunteer would have to find it interesting enough to do.

Hi guys,

Can we agree that a spreadsheet != a text document maybe? :)
Comment 3 Joel Madero 2016-03-03 01:54:56 UTC
@Cor - it is troubling that you're using a really really subjective methodology for enhancement requests. We have never been gate keepers but yet this is precisely what is being done here.

Sure, spreadseets are not text documents, does that mean that non-printing characters are not there? Or that it would never be good to see them?

This is troubling that we're going down this road of gate keepers

To answer this question abundantly obviously - yes. But that doesn't go to the validity of the request.

Of course. And therefore we use Calc and not Writer very sucessfully and happily because we are managing content of tables (in our cases: csv-files). However the content of these tables does not always contain numbers and formulas but also more or less plain text. And sometimes it would be great to identify those ugly nonprinting characters which succeeded in stealing in our content without having to copy the cell content to an editor.

How to vote for this issue to implement this feature?
