Description jan d 2016-03-20 08:37:14 UTC
There are some enhancement-bugs asking for statistical or otherwise advanced charting tools (Histogram: #82716 , Boxplot: #Bug 70361).

Could we leverage an JavaScript/SVG/HTML based charting library for those? Vega-lite http://vega.github.io/vega-lite/ might be a candidate for this.

If this is not a clever idea, please close (ideally after telling us the reason) – on the other hand, being able to hand data to such an library could combine Calc’s power in data calculation and manipulation with an versatile external library.

If going for a 3rd party library, why not use something in C++ like http://www.vtk.org/ ?
Comment 2 jan d 2016-10-17 18:23:36 UTC
vtk would be fine too – the advantages I would see in a JS based solution is that they allow easy export to HTML and SVG and are often easy to customize if a user has basic Javascript skills.
