Description Steven 2016-06-23 00:34:08 UTC
Importing xls file from my bank has first column(A), with header "posting date". No dates appear but each and every cell in the column(A) has the "date" format. Showing in the "edit" box as 12/30/1899, looking at cell properties, none are Protected or Hidden. I have talked with my bank they think that the Excel file being generated is version MSO-2013 but have no knowledge of backward compatibility version. I opened the file in Excel 2003 and all columns have true representation of the data.

Could you edit the file in Excel 2003 to anonymize the data and then check that the problem is still in LibreOffice and then attach the file to this report?

Set to NEEDINFO.
Change back to UNCONFIRMED after you have provided the document.

Yeah, I thought that you'd ask me to send the file. Here's what I see as the problem in doing that, and by the way I downloaded "OpenOffice" (sorry) and the same problem happens - except that their cells actually show the "1899" date in all the cells.
Okay problem ... even if I sanitize the data I would have to save the file and doing so might influence the structure. Having left M$ years ago my only current version of M$O is 2003 and knowing M$'s bent to isolate its products like it has over the years from the Linux community makes me believe that this is by design; especially since now having experienced the same problem in "OO".
Maybe the report should be closed but for information sake ... the bank provides a "csv" in which the first column is the account number. In my talks with the bank I asked if the xls is missing that column or is it not being generated and they said ... Not included. Since the "csv" has no problems importing I won't belabor the issue.
Last they (bank) had recently like most vendors moved to include a mobile platform and a newer online presence and for my own edification have been exploring and testing.
If I can get the bank to send me an almost blank file I will gladly forward that to you; but the issue I see there is that my "xls" file is being generated on the fly and that server version could be different from what a staff member might generate to send to me.
Being that they're a "financial" institution their "3rd party" tools or web subcontractors are " Not " under their control and my insistence to root to the heart of this problem has caused them to look at me with some concern instead of seizing the opportunity to make any corrections.

Close the case and if I find time to further this I will re-open a bug report.
Thanks

Yeah, I think it would anyways be worth a shot to try with MSO 2003. At least it is "historically closer" to the .xls binary format :)
