Description Alex ARNAUD 2016-07-19 09:00:36 UTC
Dear LibreOffice community,

on the latest fresh release (5.1.4) I'm not able to read or adding comment.

Steps to reproduce :

1) Open LibreOffice

2) Launch Orca or another assistive technology

3) Add comment

Expected result : Make the comment widget accessible and add keyboard shortcuts for accessing comments

Result : Unable to add/read comment

Best regards.

I'm not totally sure. For example, on Writer the comment is added to a text element (word, sentence, ...).
On Impress, it seems that the comment are related to the slide, so I understand well another way should implemented for accessing the comments, isn't it ?

Best regards,
Alex.

That's a fair point, let's have a separate report for Impress.

As I discussed with Alex on IRC, these are needed and missing:
"0) The capacity to read the comment widget
1) The capacity to be informed about the comment exist and it is assigned to an item (slide, sentence, word, ETC)
2) The capacity to access it via keyboard"

I don't know whether there are established methods for 1) and 2) (for example in Writer there are many objects that can be added to anywhere on a page, are those objects accessible?), so I'm not sure what exactly to compare the current behavior against.

I can definitely reproduce that comments aren't read when jumping between them.
I also can't seem to access the functions that can be performend on a comment via keyboard, and access the comment itself via keyboard.

Setting to NEW.

I checked accerciser and comments arent exposed in the tree. Also the behaviour of the screen reader not to speak the letters when you use the arrow keys in the comment seems just like writer.

Dear Alex ARNAUD,

To make sure we're focusing on the bugs that affect our users today, LibreOffice QA is asking bug reporters and confirmers to retest open, confirmed bugs which have not been touched for over a year.

There have been thousands of bug fixes and commits since anyone checked on this bug report. During that time, it's possible that the bug has been fixed, or the details of the problem have changed. We'd really appreciate your help in getting confirmation that the bug is still present.

If you have time, please do the following:

Test to see if the bug is still present with the latest version of LibreOffice from https://www.libreoffice.org/download/

If the bug is present, please leave a comment that includes the information from Help - About LibreOffice.

If the bug is NOT present, please set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED-WORKSFORME and leave a comment that includes the information from Help - About LibreOffice.

Please DO NOT

Update the version field
Reply via email (please reply directly on the bug tracker)
Set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED - FIXED (this status has a particular meaning that is not
appropriate in this case)

If you want to do more to help you can test to see if your issue is a REGRESSION. To do so:
1. Download and install oldest version of LibreOffice (usually 3.3 unless your bug pertains to a feature added after 3.3) from https://downloadarchive.documentfoundation.org/libreoffice/old/

2. Test your bug
3. Leave a comment with your results.
4a. If the bug was present with 3.3 - set version to 'inherited from OOo';
4b. If the bug was not present in 3.3 - add 'regression' to keyword
