Strange display of font / empty rows too high

On OSX the rc3 of LO52 Calc creates a new spreadsheet with very high rows.
The font defined in there is "Liberation Sans" at 10pt.
But the actual text in that font appears as 13pt text in Writer (as can be seen in the attached screenshot).
I am not sure if this could be split into two bugs:
- font represented much bigger
- empty rows in a spreadsheet displayed too high
or maybe this is all about the rendering of the font.

Another thought: how come the default font for a spreadsheet is Liberation Sans, isn't that a not-so-serious font, used for children's texts etc.?
