I have tested this issue in a variety of ways, but I cannot get Autocorrect to do anything. So some things to note: 1) I have verified that Autocorrect is on (while typing is checked). 2) I have verified that the various words I am trying to autocorrect are in the list of replacements ("i" > "I"; "teh" > "the"; "(r)" > [registered symbol]). 3) I have tried simply applying autocorrect manually through the menu, and still it does not work. 4) The language of the document matches the language specified in the Autocorrect dialog. Any help would be much appreciated.
OK, I have found the issue, and this is my error. Under Autocorrect options > Options tab, the checkbox for "Use replacement table" is unchecked by default. This seems counterintuitive to me, considering I would think most users who turn on Autocorrect at all (by **checking the menu option "While typing"**) would expect that the replacement table would apply to text while typing. My recommendation is to make the box checked by default.
Per comment 1, setting as INVALID. @mageejp : what you might feel is counter-intuitive is another person's timesaving feature. If you feel strongly enough about it, I can only encourage you to open a new bug report as a request for enhancement, but please do a search beforehand in the bugzilla to check whether someone hasn't already done so.

It is checked in a recent daily for me. I haven't checked a daily release, just the last stable release for OSX, so that's all I can speak to.
