Steve mentioned that the switching of toolbar modes (View > Toolbar Layout) is slow in bug 101249 comment 8 and provided this screencast.

https://vid.me/bpS3

So how can we track down what is causing this issue that doesnt happen on linux or windows?

OK, forget comment 2, the Toolbar Layout menu is only available in master - found it, played with it, CONFIRMING

Very slow switching between toolbar modes.

Had some trouble reproducing, but if I open a fresh Calc instance and change from Standard Toolbar to Contextual Groups it takes what feels like 1-3 seconds.

After switching once it is instant switching back and forth

Link to screencast is dead

Lowering prio as per flowchart

I think this is still present

It is faster when switching for the first time (my computer is now faster), and when testing bug 94099 it took 10-15 seconds, while bolding all text only took 1-3 seconds
