I tried out both versions of LibreOffice on a PC which had just a clean install of W7. No previous installation of LibreOffice or anything it could conflict with. For both versions I tried to open Writer. During the first attempt (no restart) it wouldn't even open and Windows gave an error (without mentioning any cause), for every attempt after that it would crash after immediately after closing it. Windows gave an error report that the program crashed. I first tried out version 5.2 , after getting these bugs I uninstalled it, I cleaned the register with CCleaner (just to make sure) and I installeed version 5.1.5. Again the same bugs: during the first start it wouldn't even open, during the second start it would crash after closing. I also uninstalled version 5.1.5. For the last version (5.1.5.) I tried it again after restarting the computer, just to make sure, no difference. While searching for it I noticed that many people have stability problems with these versions of LibreOffice, on their computers it seems (to them, they can't detect any pattern) to crash at random. Needless to say that I can't trust the stability of 5.1 and 5.2 for now. I will try out the very first verision of 5 (I expect that one also to crash) and otherwise the most stable version of 4. Too bad. I like the GUI improvements. Further Data on my computer: i5-750, 8 GB DDR3 @1300 MHz 9-9-9-12 , HD 7850, plenty of free space on the hard drive. With other words, it isn't my hardware which is to blame, even though it is a bit old by now.
First, you may clean your LO directory profile (since you first installed 5.2.1) See https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/UserProfile#Windows Then, have in mind that LO 64 bits needs Java 64 bits, LO 32 bits needs Java 32 bits. If it still crashes, it could be interesting to retrieve a backtrace, see https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA/BugReport/Debug_Information#Windows:_How_to_get_a_backtrace
